This presentation will focus on trauma-informed intimate partner violence (IPV) intervention. The speaker will discuss the etiology of IPV with a focus on the role of trauma and a “social information processing” model of violence. Several risk factors for IPV will be discussed, such as posttraumatic stress disorder and core themes underlying trauma and relationship problems such as difficulties with trust, power and control, self-esteem, and shame. An example of an evidence-based trauma-informed intervention, Strength at Home, will then be described and research evidence presented.
